FPC Columbia February Committee Spotlight:
Finance Committee
The Finance Committee acts as a vital bridge between spiritual missions and fiscal responsibility. The finance committee is overseen by the Session and is responsible for fiscal oversight, budgeting, stewardship and auditing to ensure financial integrity. Key tasks include managing operating budgets as submitted by the committees, payroll, endowment funds and ensuring compliance with tax laws.
Responsibilities:
Budgeting & Reporting: Prepares the annual budget for approval by the Session.
Financial Reporting: Delivers monthly reports to the Sesson and an annual report to the congregation detailing income, expenses,
and budget variances.
Internal Controls: Implements safeguards like “dual custody” –ensuring two people always count offerings or sign checks.
Operations: Handles payroll, regular expenses and donations.
Annual reviews: Financial reviews and audits are completed as mandated by the Book of Order.
Stewardship and fundraising: Collaborates with the Stewardship Committee to promote stewardship principles and manage annual pledge campaigns.
NOTE: Recently an Endowment Committee has been established to oversee the John Satterwhite, Jr. Endowment. Funds from this Endowment will assist the Benevolences as directed by the Session. This is a great opportunity for those who wish to donate, knowing funds are going to help those in need.
